Setting up Microsoft Authenticator - Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

For assistance with setting up MFA please see the information below. You will need a PC/laptop and an Android/Apple device.

1) Go to myaccount.microsoft.com or aka.ms/mfasetup 

2) Log in with your University email address and password. 

3) Click on the Security info  

4) Click on + Add method 

5) Select Authenticator app from the drop-down menu, click the Add button. You'll then get a message advising you to install the Microsoft Authenticator. 

6) On an Android device open the Play Store 

7) On an Apple device open the App Store  

8) Search for "microsoft authenticator app", install the app when prompted.  

9) Open the app, click I agree on the privacy agreement, and when prompted to sign in instead click the Skip button at the top right. 

10) Click Add account and select Work or school account. 

11) Click Scan QR code, and select Allow on an Android and OK on an Apple device, to allow the app to access your camera. 

12) Back on your PC / laptop click Next and then Next again. You should see Scan the QR code message displayed along with the square QR code itself. 

13) Point your device's camera at the code, and it should be detected and scanned automatically. 

14) On Android you will see Activating. Please wait... followed by Account added successfully. On Apple you will get a message asking if you would like the app to send you notifications.  Click Allow.  You should then see your account appear in the app. 

15) Go back to your PC / laptop and click Next.  You should then get a message asking you to approve the sign-in. Click Approve. After the message Notification Approved, click Next. You’ll then get a message confirming that the Microsoft Authenticator app was successfully registered.
